You may have noticed some changes on the river this season. Our Riviera restaurant became the Major/Riviera. That name change signifies a lot. We are in the final preparations of having the Major Sternwheel Towboat push the Riviera Passenger Barge and be in service like the Valley Gem. This has been a tremendous undertaking and is the culmination of years of hard work.
The hull of the Major is in great shape and we had previously worked on much of the mechanical including rebuilding the paddlewheel. This year has been rebuilding the superstructure, or the cabin, with new walls and a whole lot of other things you won’t be able to see. It has been a labor of love.
The Riviera has become an event space that can be rented privately but also hosts public events weekly, much like the Valley Gem does, but stationary. We are doing this now so that we can still use this lovely space but also to prepare for the time when it runs on the river while hosting those same events.
As we work to finish this enormous project, getting all paperwork in order, etc., we are unable to publish a moving Major/Riviera schedule. But..... we will. The moment we have the blessing of the United States Coast Guard, you will see a new and exciting public schedule for the Major/Rivera and we will book private rentals as well.
So as we celebrate this 50th Season in gratitude, watch for the excitement of the Major/Riviera to unfold.
