October.
Weddings may take place in Ohio, on the Muskingum River, or in West Virginia, on
the Ohio River. Couples with Ohio licenses may exchange vows at the paddlewheel while
the boat is docked, on the landing barge, or while cruising the Muskingum. Those
with West Virginia licenses may choose to have the ceremony behind the pilot house
while we are underway, or at the paddlewheel while anchored. In the case of inclement
weather, the wedding may be performed on the lower deck of the Valley Gem or the
landing barge.
Receptions: 98 guests will fit comfortably on the lower deck of the boat sitting at rectangular tables with a buffet down the middle. The bride and groom may be seated at a round table in the middle, providing seating for 100. You may have a “cocktail-style” reception for up to 200 guests, cruising the entire event. For a more formal reception with 100-200 guests, we recommend additional seating at tables on the upper deck of the boat, or on the lower deck of the stationary landing barge, Miss Lily and cruising after you eat.
We help you with your event to the best of our abilities, but please be advised it as not the same as hiring a professional wedding coordinator to handle all of the details. For an upper deck barge wedding, brides typically rent chairs from Marcia Stewart.
There are few places in the country where you can privately charter a beautiful boat for this price. Marietta as a whole offers value with reasonable hotel prices and relatively inexpensive food and entertainment options for your guests.
